Humans long for competition, and I sometimes wonder how competitions like WisCowChip develop. Who knew you could make a competition out of throwing dried cow poo!
This project was to create a branding package for a bizarre event. We had pulled events out of a hat and I chose Wisconsin State Cow Chip Throw. For those who are farm illiterate cow chips are dried pieces of cow poop. No gloves but you can lick your hand for a better grip – tasty!
The concepts for the logo ranged from flying brown blobs, to cows with exploding behinds. While this was a fun exercise I landed on making a cow chip out of the state of Wisconsin.
The inspiration for this project was David Carson’s approach to typography. I wanted to experiment with unconventional forms of typography that also kept the theme and feel of the event but maintain clarity and hierarchy.
